September 28, 2021 · 1 min read timeNitor’s Principal Designer Björn Heselius has been elected to the board of the Society for News Design (SND).
SND brings together visual journalists and media design professionals from around the world.
- I am amazed and quite taken with this appointment. We in the Nordic countries have a strong design tradition in both digital and print media. With this role, I want to raise awareness of our skills and also to inspire us to become better and better. In particular, I want to emphasize accessibility, interactivity, and taking into account the needs of readers, listeners, and viewers, says Björn Heselius.
Björn works as a UX designer and product owner at Nitor’s Stockholm office with media, retail, and public sector clients. Previously he has worked as a graphic designer and layout manager at Hufvustadsbladet and KSF Media, as well as a consultant for the Bonnier Group in Sweden. In addition, he has held positions of trust and jury memberships in Finnish, Scandinavian, Baltic, and European design competitions.
SND selects the world's best news media, organizes design competitions, annual international conferences, and workshops. The organization is located in the U.S. but has members and operations around the world.
The organization is now starting its 43rd year of operation and decided in June to dissolve its previous board and announce new elections among all members. At the same time, it changed its governance model so that the board members are now elected for a one- or two-year term.
The following members were elected to the new board:
Tara McCarty (Washington Post, USA)
Ryan Hildebrandt (USA Today, USA)
Becky Markovitz (Gannett, USA)
Björn Heselius (Nitor, Sweden)
Douglas Okasaki (freelancer, United Arab Emirates)
